- New Trains for Kerala
Kerala is expected to get three new trains in this railway budget. Plans are there to extend the route of three trains are also there. Plans are there to make two trains regular. The requests for the trains are submitted by Trivandrum and Palakkad divisions. These suggestions need the final permission of the railway board to get sanctioned in the budget.
The two new trains are daily express to Banglore from Trivandrum and Janashadabthi express from Calicut to Trivandrum. The third train will be a long distance train from a North Indian Station.
The Amritha express between Trivandrum and Palakkad will be extended to Coimbatore and the Venad express will be extended to Calicut. Plans are also there to extend the Kollam Kottayam passenger to Ernakulum.
The train service from Mangalore to Kochu veli extended up to Nagercovil last December will be made as regular service. Currently the train is for 3 days in a week. Plans are alsothere to make the Kannur Bangalore service a daily trip. The major hindrance in the improvement of train services in Kerala is lack of track and other facilities.
