Jewel of Muscat, the ship constructed in the model of a 9th century trading vessel will reach the port of Cochin today (15-03-2010). This ship is in its journey towards Singapore from Oman. Cochin is the first anchoring port for this beauty. It took 27 days to reach Cochin from Oman. The Jewel of Muscat will stay at Cochin for 2 weeks. It will reach Singapore after visiting ports of Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The recreation of this trading ship is a joint venture of Oman and Singapore government. The route followed by the jewel of Muscat is the traditional trade route from Oman to Singapore. The materials used for the construction of this vessel are also the traditional used ones such as coconut fiber, teak and palm leaves.
