Wimax in Kerala

People of Kerala can experience high speed wireless broadband service from tomorrow onwards through Wimax technology. BSNL is the service provider of this 4G mobile wimax technology. Kerala is the first state in which wimax is being launched. Te inauguration of this new service will be done by minister of state K.V. Thomas tomorrow (27-02-2010) afternoon at Ernakulum.

Wimax is the abbreviation for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. This the most effective and latest among the available wireless technologies. Wimax utilizes 20 MHz bandwidth spectrum which is much higher that the 3G spectrum of 5MHz bandwidth. Wireless connection with speed of up to 72 Mbps can be possible using Wimax.

Wimax promises full time fast Internet connection at a very low cost. Wimax offers a wide scope to mobile entertainment sector and promises a speed and performance which is 3 times better than the 3G.

BSNL is planning to establish 900 basic transmitting stations to provide Wimax Internet service to all district centers and important cities and selected towns. In the first phases 450 stations will be constructed. 25 stations will start working at Cochin on the first day of launch itself. BSNL will invest about 100 crore for the Wimax project in Kerala.

In the first phase of launch, there will 2 plans available. The home plan is of 999 Rs and business plan is of 1999 Rs. Both these plans offer unlimited Internet usage. Both these connections assure a speed of 512 Kbps. In the initial phase it offers a speed up to 2 Mbps. The users of home plan will be given 2 e-mail ids and of business plan will be provided with 5 e-mail accounts. The business plan is configured with a static ip address. The rent for one month has to be given in advance at the time of taking the connection.

No telephone connection is required for Wimax connection. Wimax offer various services such as high speed fixed and mobile internet connections, Voice over IP, Mobile TV, Mobile games,Online games, Telemedicine, Mobile geo location application, video and data based services, virtual networks, distance education services, fixed TV over IP, audio and video streaming etc.
