Shivarathri is the festival celebrated by the devotees of Lord Shiva. It is the night at which Lord Shiva performed Tandava. The devotes will fast the whole day and keep vigil in the night. It is the time when the people make lot of offerings. The chief ceremonies of the fest take place at night. It is believed as the day on which Lord Shiva married Parvathy. During the fest of Shivarathri the pilgrims offer ritual to their ancestors.
Temples in Kerala are made ready for the Shivarathri fest of tomorrow. Among the 1028 temples of Travancore Devasom Board 290 are temples of Lord Shiva. Arrangements to witness the holy Shivarathri are made in these Temples. Aluva is also made ready for Shivarathri. The Shore of the Aluva river is made ready with the arrangements for the homage ceremony. 230 “balithara” are made for the ritual.
