- Low Floor Buses
The low floor buses will start running in Kochi from today onwards. At the first phase seven buses are introduced. The inauguration will be conducted in the evening at Vytilla Junction by Union Minister K.V Thomas. At the first phase 7 buses are introduced. Initially these buses will run in 2 fixed routes. They are Fort Kochi-Kakkanad and Aroor- Angamaly. The buses are manufactured by Volvo and are specially designed to suit with the public transportation needs. Twenty drivers and twenty conductors are specially trained by Volvo in its training centre at Bangalore. They are also provided with a recent refresher course here at Kochi. One single bus cost around 80 lakh rupees. The minimum ticket charge is fixed as Rs 10. The buses are under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme. More number of buses will be allotted on the basis of the feedback on this first set. The low floor buses can provide a new experience to the passengers. This is a great milestone in the history of Cochin.

It is a very good step. Eventhough the first response may not be satisfactory, it will prove in the due course. In Bangalore too the first response was not that much warm. (due to less frequency and route choices mainly). But now most of the executives and techies are relying the public transport to avoid cumbersome driving, expenses and spare time for using mobile etc for browsing , calling, SMS, Chatting etc.
The routes should be chosen through the shortest way and by avoiding crunchy areas and traffic blocks. The timings should be exhibited in major stops so that people can plan their trips. The schedules should be adjusted to the opening times of business firms, offices etc. Time punctuality should be given the most priority.
Many people who wants to reach their work place neatly and effortlessly will slowly switch from cars to high tech buses if the other factors mentioned above are satisfactorily implemented.
as a mallu i would love this step…in kerala we have a motto of “ADITI DEVOBHAVA”…so these buse from fortkochi to kochi international airport will be comfortable and feasible for the tourists…eventhough it will be lil expensive for locals like us,but still we could still opt the volvo in heavy summer where traffic blocks r frequent sites in kochi..on top of that,as far as i m concerned volvo is the safest vehicle to be in…the main advantage for the kochiites is that there is no direct bus service to vyttila…u got to take two buses for that…in this u could straight go there…IN SHORT WHAT AN IDEA SIRJII…
From where i should get the time schedules of this buses
It is true that low floor buses are comfortable. But their time schedules are yet unknown to the common people.
